Job Overview

This position supports the Fleet Management department which is an Internal Service Funded department responsible for three core services of:

  1. Asset Management,
  2. Fuels Management, and
  3. Policy Oversight for a diverse fleet of 3,570 assets valued in excess of $216 million dollars supporting 30 BOCC departments, other County Constitutionals, and miscellaneous agencies through interlocal agreements.


Fleet provides certified professionals to maintain and manage assets in a condition that optimizes replacement cycles, enhances efficient operations, and creates a safe work environment for a diverse fleet of automotive sedans, light/medium/heavy trucks and special purpose equipment, minibuses, Fire Rescue apparatus, and more. This position provides leadership, management, and oversight of an annual operating budget of more than $28 million and replacement fund of $20 million consisting of cost estimates, budgetary analysis on future capital and operational needs, procurement/contract issues. Oversees vendor contract support to ensure the highest quality repairs and services are provided at competitive costs while pursuing opportunities to improve repair turn times. Ensures fuels oversight for an annual diesel and unleaded fuel requirement of 2.4 million gallons, six automated fuel sites, 60 non-automated fuel sites/storage tanks, and over 130 generator sites and compliance with applicable environmental regulations. Enforces policy and provides superior customer support.

Ideal Candidate
  1. Must Have Technical Experience. As such the PD highlights: 10+ years' experience in the automotive, heavy truck, heavy equipment, fire apparatus industry with at least 5 of those years at the supervisory level or above.
  2. Must Have Formal Education at the Undergraduate Level related to the position. As such the PD highlights: Bachelor's degree in general/automotive/industrial management, business, or a closely related field or a combination of education and applicable management experience may be substituted for education.
  3. Ideally, the person has:
    a) Certifications in the Career Field such as: Certified Automotive Fleet Manager or Certified Public Fleet Professional
    b) Certifications related to Process Improvement such as: Lean Six Sigma.
    c) Technical Certifications such as: Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification in Automotive/Light Truck and/or Medium/Heavy Truck.
    d) Proficient in Microsoft office systems, automated information systems to include Fleet related information systems, Oracle, and/or other enterprise resource planning applications.
